Sendai and Tohoku region

Sendai is historic city and the largest in the Tohoku (northeast) region of Japan. The city developed along the Hirose River with Sendai Castle (a.k.a. Aoba Castle) held by Date clan for 270 years. It is surrounded by scenic nature and splendid historic monuments. Matsushima and Mt. Zao offer beautiful landscapes in every season. Furthermore, the region is well-known as a cradle of Jomon culture. There are a lot of settlement and shell midden sites preserved and restored as heritage parks. All of these are worth visiting.

Sendai is located about 360km from Tokyo, an hour and a half by the fastest Bullet Train. Also there are connecting flights from Kansai, Chubu and other international airports. See more information at https://sendai-travel.jp/.
